Communicating objectives through vistas

Encouraging exploration

The project was made in a simple, stylized aesthetic to underline the level designCompositional techniques, lighting & vista locations and were used to communicate the environmental objectives to the player.

Carefully considering the technical performance of the project was a learning experience and key to providing a smooth, holistic experience for the player.

Process

I like to use a modular approach to sketching, to maintain accurate metrics right from the pre-production stage.

Reflections

  • The scope of the technical issues that arose from working with unfamiliar code could have been predicted more accurately

    • This led to debugging and performance optimization taking more time than it should have, time which could have been spent on refining the blockout more throughly

  • Composition was a bit too much fun and more time was spent on it than I would have liked

  • In the end, I'm happy with my playtesting results
